Monster Card Monday: 1910 Pop Lloyd

When a player has a 25-7, that’s pretty nice.  When that player is a Shortstop-10, that magnifies his value so much more.  Pastor Rich Zawadzki knows this and sent this John Henry “Pop” Lloyd card for Monster Monday.

As some of you know, stats for the Negro Leagues are quite sparse.  Baseball Reference didn’t have many numbers for Lloyd though there were some stats for 1910.  I looked at Seamheads.com and my guess is that they got the same stats that APBA did.  For the 1910 season, Lloyd hit .371 for the Chicago Leland Giants.  He also hit 9 doubles, a triple and 2 homers in 94 plate appearances.

Lloyd also played 9 games for Habana in the American series in 1910.

Regardless, this is a fantastic card.  Add the fact that it belongs to a SS-10 (and a 2B-8!), it is even better!  Pop Lloyd is rewarded with a 25-7 (one of a total of four 7s).

Lloyd had no homerun power with a 2 at 66 in the second column.  However, he did receive four zeroes.  In addition, he gets three 31s. On top of his impeccable fielding, he is rated Fast.

thanks, Rich!

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.

  1. No, sorry. You’re right, and I didn’t get enough sleep after game 7.
