Ken Schulz shares this Bill North APBA card from the 1978 reprint set.
I told Ken that when I joined the Illowa APBA League in 1980, North was my starting centerfielder and leadoff man. Would he have played for my team if he had a card like this?
Maybe.
Split | G | GS | PA | AB | R | H | 2B | 3B | HR | RBI | SB | CS | BB | SO | BA | OBP | SLG |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1978 Totals | 134 | 95 | 442 | 356 | 59 | 82 | 14 | 0 | 0 | 15 | 30 | 10 | 74 | 61 | .230 | .367 | .270 |
North’s 1978 card is certainly not powerful with one power number, a 66-6. But he gets on base! He has a total of six 14s.
He also has two steal-inducing 11s. His steal numbers are a bit oddly placed as he has a 25-10 but a 55-11. Usually, the 11s precede the 10s in this order… 15, 25, 51, 31 and if needed 55.
It could be that North just has too many 14s.
As this is a reprint printed in 2019, I’m a little surprised APBA didn’t use an asterisk or two to recreate North’s 30 stolen bases. He certainly had the 14s available and it would balance the hits on the card a little more.
But Weird cards are what makes looking through cards fun!
thanks, Ken!
yes a weird one for sure. im kinda surprised its not double-columns to avoid the 66-6 and 11-8 set-up.
