Roels rolls over Indy 500!

I just wanted to congratulate my friend and frequent tourney participant John Roels (that’s him at Chicagoland earlier this year) on his win at the Indy 500 Tournament. John won with the Cincinnati Reds of 1955.

Give the tournament organizers of Indy 500 some due credit. Mike Willett and Dave Chestnut had some clever ideas especially since it was their very first tourney.

Here’s an example. In their 3-game double elimination round, if the team won their first two games, they would have the advantage of a day’s rest for their pitchers. Very good idea!!

Dave tells me that the event went well and it was very balanced tourney. And it’s worth noting that this was the inaugural tournament of Indy 500. Given its success, there will hopefully be more.

Congrats John and nice work to the organizers!!

I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.
