Every time Rod Caborn sends me a recap of a replay he’s done, I am increasingly impressed. His latest effort with the 1915 Federal League project is no exception. He just sent me a write-up of his replay in which the Chicago Whalers took the championship behind MVP Dutch Zwilling and Cy Young winner George McConnell.
Rod does an exceptional job of beginning his documentation in general then slowly getting into the weeds with every bit of detail available about the replay.
He sets the context from the start talking about his motivation for the project and provides the context for the season both historically and in his personal life (I bet this is good reading for Rod as he goes back and re-reads these years later).
For the replay recap, Rod doesn’t just provide stats either. He begins with a season recap is worthy of any professional journal. Each team has its own highlights section.
And yes, there are plenty of stats! Leaderboards, team stats and even a section on pinch hitting stats. The notable game performances was a fun read as was the list of longest hitting streaks. Honestly, there’s nothing this document doesn’t cover.

Rod, your yearbook is an absolute thing of beauty. I like to think that I have quite the eye for creativity and quite the imagination, but your yearbook is really second to none. I love the use of pictures, the style that they were done in. As part of the audience, you really take us to this place in time. What you did, is what I hope to come anywhere close to. I was so impressed with it, I may have to print this entire booklet up, and read it word for word in good time.
