I asked each of the four Illowa APBA League 2021 playoff teams managers to send me a photo of the APBA card of their favorite player from this season. From there, I worked something up.
Hey check it out! There I am. As the league’s unofficial photographer, do you know how hard it is for me to find a photo of myself? Photo credit goes to Dennis Jennings, I believe.
Luke Voit hit 58 homeruns and drove in 129 but didn’t even warrant consideration for MVP. He didn’t even get a vote for All-League firstbaseman. Even I voted for Freddie Freeman who is a Chicken-killer (Sorry Luke!). That said, Voit did what he was paid to do. He hit homers. Interestingly, his 58 dingers overwhelm his four doubles and two triples.
Manny Machado was a solid bat in our lineup. Batting third or fourth in our lineup, he hit 44 homeruns and drove in 116. With Manny and Luke behind him in the lineup, Cavan Biggio scored 102 runs. He also somehow hit 47 doubles (2nd in the league).
Antonio Senzatela (BRZ) was on a run to win 20 but tailed off towards the end of the season. Tied for the league lead in shutouts with four, he ended up 17-10.
As a result, the Thunderchickens (85-77) held steady in third place for the entire second half. I would never catch up with Dan Bunch’s Colona Hustlers or Dennis Jennings’ Global Glaciers who both substantially blew by the 100 game mark.
Things were a little touch and go the last month. I lost seven of nine against Dan. Fortunately, Dan’s brother, Marcus won five of nine against the Marauders which guaranteed me a playoff spot. No good deed goes unpunished. For his trouble, Marcus went down two draft spots.
I will be playing Dan in the first round of the playoffs in less than three weeks. Hopefully, Twin City can do a little better than their 2-7 performance.
Looking forward to seeing who wins the title and your annual league draft report.
oh my gosh, I’ve barely thought about the draft. I just know I need a ton of pitching. :)
