There’s something about C-9s. Especially if they can hit.
This is Salvador Perez’ brand new APBA card representing the 2021 season. Perez led the AL in homers (48) and rbis (121) while playing 161 games for Kansas City. If you’re curious, Salvador actually caught in 124 of those games, mostly DHing in the rest (he was no Randy Hundley).
Split | G | PA | AB | R | H | 2B | 3B | HR | RBI | SB | BB | SO | BA | OBP | SLG |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
2021 Totals | 161 | 665 | 620 | 88 | 169 | 24 | 0 | 48 | 121 | 1 | 28 | 170 | .273 | .316 | .544 |
There’s really not a lot to say about this card. It can hit for power with extra-base hit numbers 1-1-0-0. It’s got a fair amount of ones in the second column (8) to accompany five singles.
Salvador hit .273 but the APBA card makers saw fit to give him a 44-7. Most likely, that was because of his dearth of walks. He trotted 28 times in 665 plate appearances. Ten hit by pitches earned him a 13-42 which helps his OBP.
The best part of Salvador Perez if you have him on your league team, is that you can pencil him in your lineup card every day. For sure, he’s a J-0.
Did I mention he is a Catcher-9? I bet my buddy Dan is going to have fun with this card this year in the Illowa APBA League.
Special mention to Pastor Rich who suggested 1929 Al Simmons. Alas, I had featured Simmons in 2015. Thanks Rich!
He’s also a +6 throwing arm if you’re using Master Game stealing options.
Which is the best rating you can get!
Salvy does it all with this card. Enjoy it. You may never see one like this again.
I’m impressed by the power but if he has a down year in that regard thank goodness the defense is there!
