Is BBW 5.75 64-bit compatible? In short, yes.

John Hutcheson and I got into a extended discussion over twitter about the upcoming release of BBW 5.75 any possible compatibility issues. Since the previous version did have issues with running on 64-bit versions of Windows, John was understandably concerned.

Never fear, I checked with John Herson and he assured me that the new version of Baseball for Windows 5.75 is compatible with 64-bit Windows:

“It will run on 64 bit platform.  It also runs on Windows  8.  Regards  John”

For those running Baseball for Windows 5.5

For those running the previous version of BBW on 64-bit Windows, you might still have a workaround provided you are running Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate.  If so, you can run in XP mode via Virtual PC.  It’s not a perfect solution but it apparently works.  The APBA Company website has instructions on how to do it here.  Unfortunately, this will not work for those running Windows 7 Home Premium without upgrading (at a cost).

Moving forward, I don’t think APBA had any choice.  Most new systems are shipping with 64-bit operating systems especially with the Windows 8 on the horizon.

  1. Don’t care. I run Macs.
But if you can tell me how BBW 5.75 allows you to connect to another player over the internet, I’ll run right out and buy a Windows box.

John Hutch is the man!!! Treat him nice, he’s one of my League members.

Glad you got him the info direct from Herson.

  3. Thanks for clearing this up, John. There’s been a lot of back-and-forth concerning BBW 5.5 and Windows 7. I have Pro an run 5.5 without any problems with XP Virtual. Others have told me that you can run 5.5 on Windows 7 Home, but you appear to confirm the need to have Pro with the XP Virtual.

  4. Thanks again, sir!
Dom is being nice to s this year, but next year when he has 6 picks out of the first 12 n the draft, he will marching like Sherman through Georgia..
