My laptop just suffered a hard drive crash. I guess it’s the computer gods exacting vengeance on an IT person such as myself.
I’m still in the process of getting the data off my old hard drive (easier said than done). Fortunately, I didn’t have to worry about my APBA stats. I kept them online on Dropbox. Once I got my system back online I just installed the client, logged in and my files started syncing back to my new hard drive… including my APBA stats. I’m watching it sync up as I write this.
Note: I don’t own stock in Dropbox nor did I get paid to endorse their product. I just like their service. There are other similar services such as Box.com, Microsoft Skydrive, and Google Drive that provide the same service. All are free for a basic plan if you’re willing to your data in the hands of strangers.
The point is this: don’t trust your hard work of months of replay or league’s stats to your local hard drive that’s itching to go south. Back it up or even better sync it up a Cloud-based service.
Advice for us all, but you need to change “itching to” to “will”. The hard drive WILL go south. They all do.
Dropbox, Box.net, SpiderOak, Carbonite, and the like do different things, but they’re all pretty useful. Don’t let you data rest on that one drive.
Because it isn’t “itching to”, it will.
Happy Rolling!
I’m probably the minority these days, but I don’t use technology…….. All of my stats are kept the old fashioned way, pencil and paper from a marble book. I only use a calculator for my stats. I think it’s quicker to just turn to a page to put the numbers in than waitin for my computer to turn on and for files to open…..
@Brian you are truly unique individual I believe. :) More power to you.
I remember those days. I used to type out my league stats on my Smith Corona using liquid paper when I made a mistake.
ugh.
