As always, I’m getting my league stats done just under the wire. I sent them in with just one hour to spare before the deadline.
We’re playing way below our predicted level at a 29-43 record. Yikes! Not only that, there are some interesting stats so far…
I picked up part-timer Vernon Wells and his 1-0-0 to fill the gap in my outfield. Vernon is taking his job seriously as he’s second on my team in homers. He’s just one behind leader Albert Pujols with 10 homers in just 161 at-bats.
This one I can’t figure out. Jose Reyes has been batting either first or second in my lineup all year yet is second on the Thunderchickens in rbis with 35. His other stats aren’t fantastic (.253, 18 doubles, 7 triples, 3 HR) but his timely hitting is driving in runs.
Rookie Scott Diamond continues to be the star pitcher with a 7-2 record and a 2.85. He just pitched his second shutout of the year. Stephen Strasburg is picking it up as well. After starting the season 1-5, he’s won 4 straight. He’s struck out 85 batters in 64 innings and sports a 3.67 ERA. It doesn’t hurt that he’s helping with his bat. He has four homeruns so far in ten starts.
Finally, if Tyler Colvin keeps hitting like he does, I’ll be a happy man. He leads the team in hitting (.311) and slugging (.565). After last year’s card, he has a lot catching up to do.
By the way, the Colvin baseball card you see comes from Shawn Baier of The Boys of Summer. Shawn had it made up special and during our preparation of his APBA Fan Profile interview, he sent to me. I love it! I told him I’m going to print it up on some card stock and bring it to league functions.
I am the manager who is swapped Vernon Wells to the Thunderchickens. I got Orlando Hudson in return.
Orlando has played 16 games but only batted three times.
Maybe when my Marauders play the Thunderchickens in August Orlando will play.

Glad you love the card, I have to say out of all the legends I have done of the Izzy cards, this card is one of my favorites actually, the photo, font & colors work out pretty well with this one. Plus it’s cool to see Thunder-Chickens in the 1977 Topps form.
