No-hitter alert: 1930 Wes Ferrell shuts down the Red Sox for Brando’s 2nd no-no in a week

Just last week, my buddy Brando helped Sandy Koufax to the first no-hitter of my 1966 NL replay.  That game was on April 30th in my replay.

Well, Brando’s done it again in just under a week.  He emailed me this week telling me he had a no-hitter in his (get this) 1930 replay.  To be fair, it was against the Red Sox.

Brando writes:

Wes Ferrell pitches first no-hitter of the season against the Boston Red Sox.

In real life he gave up 2 runs on 10 hits and won his 21st game.  It was his 20th win of the year in APBA.

If memory serves, Ferrell is a AZ in 1930.  He’s one of few A starters in the set.

I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.

  2. A or no A, it’s pretty tough to throw any no hitter in 1930!! Congrats to Hall of Famer
Wes Ferrell- at least I think he’s in the hall
and a great hitter to boot.

  3. and don’t forget, Brando’s participating in the Chicago tournament next Saturday.

For all our sakes, I hope this trend doesn’t continue and his pitchers start giving up the long ball. :)

  4. Congrats on the no-hitter. There were no no-hitters in 1930, but Ferrell threw one on April 29 of 1931. Good stuff!. Mel
