photo (11)Lately, Mel M has been updating us with his 1967 AL replay.  I just got an email from Mel that he completed the All-Star Game for his replay and he passed on his summary for us.

Hey Tom, here’s a recap of my all star game.  Welcome to sunny California for the 1967 All Star Game.  It’s the Red Sox Jim Lonborg (15) against the Phillies Jim Bunning (17).

Lonborg fires in the first pitch to the Cardinals Lou Brock and Brock hits it high and deep to right, the Orioles Frank Robinson goes back to the warning track and to the wall…and you can kiss it good-by.  It’s a lead off home run for Brock.
In the bottom of the second the Red Sox Carl Yastrzemski leads off and homers to right for a 1-1 tie.loubrock

The Angels Jim McGlothlin comes in to pitch the third and Lou Brock rips a one out double and comes around to score when the Pirates Roberto Clemente lines a single.

The fourth inning is no better for McGlothlin as Richie Allen doubles and scores on the Cardinals Julian Javier’s single for a 3-1 NL lead.

The Cardinals Bob Gibson pitched a scoreless 4th, but in the fifth the Twins Tony Oliva stroked a one out pinch hit single.  After the Angels Jim Fregosi struck out the Tigers Dick McAuliffe lined a home run over the right field fence.  After five innings of play the score is 3-3.

The Tigers Earl Wilson took over on the mound for the AL in the top of the sixth and hurled three shutout innings.  Ferguson Jenkins of the Cubs pitched 2 scoreless innings and the Giants  Mike McCormick pitched a scoreless eighth.
Joe Horlen of the White Sox is in to pitch the ninth for the AL.  Joe Torre of the Braves leads off and singles, the Cubs Randy Hundley is sent in to pinch run.  The Astros Joe Morgan then laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt and Hundley is on second with one out.  The Pirates Gene Alley, who is 2 for 3 is due up, but NL manager Walt Alston (LA Dodgers) calls him back.  Out of the dugout steps the Giants’ Willie Mays.  Horlen delivers and Mays hits one to deep left center, Paul Blair (Orioles) races back to make a play, but the ball hits the top of the fence and Mays is into second with a stand up double as Hundley scores the the go ahead run.

The New York Mets rookie Tom Seaver is on the mound in the bottom of the ninth.  Brooks Robinson (Orioles) Tony Oliva and Rod Carew (Twins) are set down in order and the NL wins 4-3.
