When I first saw this 1984 Jose Oquendo card, the snarky voice inside my head said, “but wait, he only plays one position”.
This Oquendo card looks a little weak at first glance but factor in the speed numbers and it’s not too terrible. Add in his pretty good defense, and it’s definitely playable.
There’s no one thing that is really out-and out weird about this card. It certainly not as weird as his 1988 card.
However, with its lack of power (one 6) but plentiful speed numbers (11-10-10) and good defense (SS-9), his 1984 card strikes me as a mixture of oddness. With his 35-22, this card works pretty well with a runner on first especially with no 24s to double him up.
All 1984 cards had 12-12, so the 52-25 and 23-27 makes them all weird.
