Get in on the Steel City APBA Baseball Tournament

steelAPBA tournaments are springing up all over the place.  Seeing the fun and success of other tournaments, PA native Ken Schulz decided to get in on the action.  He’s attempting to organize an APBA baseball tournament in Pittsburgh.

After announcing it just a few days ago, Ken already has seven participants lined up.  The event and rules are in the planning stages but he’s going to posting updates as soon they are official.

Here’s Ken’s latest update:

First Steel City APBA Baseball Tournament will be held June 13, 2015 barring we get enough participants. Location Pittsburgh PA. I will be bringing the 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates. Who is in and what team do you want? We will use the same rules as the Greater Michigan Tournament and once I finalize a place this week or next I will create a page on here.

More details to follow. Basic game will be used.

***Winner will get a chance to choose tickets for the Sunday Pirates and Phillies game.

Ken Schulz – 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates
Bill Lilley – 1968 Detroit Tigers
John Cress – 1995 Cleveland Indians
Dylan Shirk – 1995 Atlanta Braves
Darren Schulz – 1927 New York Yankees
Mark McDonel – 1971 Pittsburgh Pirates
Tim Rounds – 1931 Philadelphia A’s

Good luck, Ken and keep us posted!

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.

  1. Ken, way to go! You won’t have any regrets. Looking forward to following another APBA tourney.

  2. Ken, hope your tournament is as successful as our Chicagoland tourneys have been! Regional tournaments are a little easier and less $$$ than the national in Atlanta.

  3. Wow, that’s a pretty awesome prize. Good luck to all and looking forward to the results.

I have to say that the 71 Pirates are going to be tough to beat in my view; great balance and a ton of options on/off the bench. Great platoon options, etc and good enough pitching I believe. Look out for a young Pops Stargell playing LF. Would be great to see young Pops in LF battle old Pops at 1B with the 79 team!
