Monster Card Monday: 2017 Giancarlo Stanton

There are wild, crazy and MONSTER card in the new 2017 APBA Baseball set.  Dave Rueck shared Giancarlo Stanton’s card and boy, that fits the bill.  Used to be, three 1s was reserved for folks like Ruth (not to take away from Stanton at all).

Well, Stanton had a Ruthian year with a league-leading 59 homers and 132 rbis.  Those 59 dingers helped him pace the league in slugging with a .631 mark.

Stanton’s prowess with the bat was enough to eke out the 2017 NL MVP over Joey Votto.

Look at those ones.  Be the ones.  Bathe in the ones.  I know if I had Stanton, I would love this card.  Yes, he has three 1s but he also has zeroes at 22 and 44.

If you’re looking for a homer, that 22-0 or 44-0 won’t do you too much good, though.  Except for the 66-5, he has all sixes and sevens in the second column.  That’s a small price to pay for the 33-1 in my opinion.

Don’t overlook the fact that Giancarlo was upgraded to an OF-3 from the OF-2 he got in 2016.

All of this will be nice to play in a full season.  Stanton played in 159 games and came to the plate 692 times.  No rest for the big slugger.

thanks, Dave!

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as the BBW Boys of Summer APBA League since 2014. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.

5 Comments:

  1. Should have been single column. Accuracy Shmaccuracy.

  2. Yes. Just to get a few 7s in there I would have liked to see a single column. Mr. Seitz would have probably kept it a single column.

  3. Agree – single column cards are much easier to read. And there was no reason for a double column card in this instance.

  4. Three 1’s, J-0 and OF-3. Mercy.

I can’t get used to the birth dates being in the 80’s and 90’s.
