1968 World Series Replay – Game 3

Traveling back to Detroit with a two games to nothing lead, the Tigers sent Earl Wilson to the mound. The slugging hurler (seven homers) had another solid campaign in the Year of the Pitcher, posting a 13-12 record with a 2.85 ERA. The Cardinals countered with Ray Washburn. During most…

APBA, SOM share the spotlight in ESPN article

This morning, ESPN ran a story entitled “Strat-O-Matic, APBA provide old-school way to scratch your baseball itch”.

With the current COVID-19 pandemic playing havoc with this year’s MLB schedule, it seems tabletop sports games are having a resurgence. Sports media outlets are finding ways to keep the game relevant in its absence. While we can only watch so many videos of games of the past, some media have noted that we can replay the past.

The story quotes APBA GO fan Gil Palladino who spoke about the spike in interest about the online version of the game. ESPN staff writer Alden Gonzalez also talked to APBA Games Company CEO John Herson who appreciates the increased interest in tabletop sports gaming but… “it’s really tempered by the circumstances.”

The article covers a family in the Boston area who plays Strat-O-Matic. I know… I just said the “S” word. As I said before, I don’t play religious wars when it comes to tabletop sports games. It’s still a good story. By the way, are all boys born in Boston given the name “Brady”?

Thanks for making APBA look good, Gil and John!

First Card Friday: 1948 Alvin Dark (RoY)

Players like Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio, and Willie Mays are often mentioned when baseball fans talk about career numbers that were lost because of their service during America’s foreign wars. However, very rarely do fans talk about the players who potentially missed out on the Baseball Hall of Fame because…
