First Card Friday: 1915 Wally Pipp

An interesting rabbit hole to jump into is researching the Major League players that are connected to your home town. APBA cards have a great habit of leading us in such directions because it is so easy to glance at the birthdates, home towns, and nicknames on our APBA cards.…

APBA, SOM share the spotlight in ESPN article

This morning, ESPN ran a story entitled “Strat-O-Matic, APBA provide old-school way to scratch your baseball itch”.

With the current COVID-19 pandemic playing havoc with this year’s MLB schedule, it seems tabletop sports games are having a resurgence. Sports media outlets are finding ways to keep the game relevant in its absence. While we can only watch so many videos of games of the past, some media have noted that we can replay the past.

The story quotes APBA GO fan Gil Palladino who spoke about the spike in interest about the online version of the game. ESPN staff writer Alden Gonzalez also talked to APBA Games Company CEO John Herson who appreciates the increased interest in tabletop sports gaming but… “it’s really tempered by the circumstances.”

The article covers a family in the Boston area who plays Strat-O-Matic. I know… I just said the “S” word. As I said before, I don’t play religious wars when it comes to tabletop sports games. It’s still a good story. By the way, are all boys born in Boston given the name “Brady”?

Thanks for making APBA look good, Gil and John!
