RCMBA’s John Briggs’ approach to mail league instructions

A couple days ago, I posted an example of what instructions for an APBA mail series for baseball might look like.  I have to admit, they pale in comparison to what John Briggs put together for his team in the Roberto Clemente Memorial Baseball Association

Not only are they complete and are prepared for every situation but John’s instructions add a bit of humor as well (Ryne Duren is your advanced scout?)

I admit there were a few eventualities I missed in my notes such as when to hit and run and when to pull your defense close.  John’s instruction sheet addresses these.

Below are screen captures of John’s instructions for his Syracuse PD Blue (click to enlarge).  You can also download the set of instructions in Excel format.

John’s comments:

It has the MLB team for my guys because some managers don’t pull out opponents cards until they play the games.  It also has defense ratings of pitchers because some managers don’t pull out pitcher cards.  I prefer the bullpen chart to give the "home" manager a little better idea of who I would like to come in for the situation.

Thanks, John for submitting this.  It’s a good chance to see how other leagues approach these kind of things!

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.

  1. The radio broadcasts have to be terrible.

  2. @Beignet yeah and with Jennie Finch as trainer, i wonder how many Syracuse players are jaking it. :)
