TBL draft set for Feb 12

APBA Blog reader Steve Stein writes in and tells me that his league’s draft is coming up soon.  And like last year, the Transcontinental Baseball League draft will post their draft online so you can ‘watch’ it live.  You don’t have to wait, though.  If you go to TBL draft page now, you can see their teams’ rosters, draftable rookies and draft order.

Here’s what Steve has to say regarding their draft:

The Transcontinental Baseball League (TBL) kicks off its 30th season with its annual League Meeting and Draft in Fishkill NY on Saturday, February 12.

Every year, certain managers predict how the draft might go.  This year there were three such predictions.  Another manager, Paul Montague, took these 3 predictions and made a consensus ranking of the particularly talented 2011 Draft class.

Here are the results:

1. Buster Posey

2. Jason Heyward

3. Mike Stanton

4. Carlos Santana

5. Starlin Castro

6. Madison Bumgarner

7. Logan Morrison

8. Jaime Garcia

9. Pedro Alvarez

10. Jhoulys Chacin

11. Ike Davis

12. Stephen Strasburg

13. Austin Jackson

14. Jose Tabata

15. Neil Walker

16. Josh Thole

17. Domonic Brown

18. Daniel Hudson

19. Jeremy Hellickson

20. Travis Wood

21. Wade Davis

22. Mitch Moreland

23. Tyler Colvin

24. Joaquin Benoit

25. Mike Leake

26. Dayan Viciedo

27. Gaby Sanchez

28. Kenley Jansen

29. Jason Castro

30. Ryan Kalish

31. Justin Smoak

32. Chris Johnson

It’s nice to see some MLB rookie predictions up especially in the unique method that Paul has done.  It’s tough to get a sense how rookies will get drafted without asking a manager to give up his hand (“Starlin Castro?  Naww, he won’t go till the 3rd round.”).

I’m curious how close the actual draft will be to the predictions.  It’s amazing at least in my league’s drafts how certain high-level rookies get passed by sometimes and don’t get picked till later rounds.  Teams’ needs and managers’ biases for a certain type of player really do come into play.

Good luck to the TBL on the 12th.  For those especially interested, don’t forget you can check the TBL website on Feb 12th and see how they are doing!

5 Comments:

  1. TBL not TCBL. But thanks for posting this! I hope it helps those with similar wealth of riches in the draft this year!

  2. my bad… it was even in your email.

I hope Posey isn’t going that early. My team has its eye on him in our league. :)

  3. The team with the #1 pick traded away Brian McCann. Can’t see them doing that if they weren’t picking Posey.

Hayward would be my #1 pick.

  4. Heyward. (Gotta get in the habit of spelling it right – he’s going to be a force for some time.)

  5. Ack! This one’s my bad – it was Paul *Montague*, not Paul Harrington who was responsible for the rankings.
