APBA in the News: the age old debate fosters in Peoria Journal Star

I occasionally like to scan the news for mentions of APBA. It’s interesting to see how our old game is being portrayed in the media.  Of course, I have to filter out those talking about the American Power Boat Association (anyone who’s searched for “APBA” on the web knows what I mean).

Just last week, John Plevka who is a columnist at the Peoria (IL) Journal Star brought the oft discussed debate of what game is best between APBA and Strat-O-Matic.  Normally, I think these arguments are fruitless since each game has their merits and you’re not going to change any die-hard fan’s mind.  However, the fact that this kind of material made it to a column of a relatively large market newspaper’s website (ok, don’t laugh, Peoria is the 3rd largest metro area in Illinois), is what’s interesting to me.

And probably good PR for both games.

Plevka is an APBA fan but his article, APBA or Strat-O-Matic?, entertains comments to the contrary.

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.
