Monster Card Monday: 1945 Kelly Callaghan

This would be probably one of the strangest Monday submissions. it’s 1945 Kelly Callaghan, mother of Casey Candaele. She is the player they based the movie League of their own on. However, there were obviously a fair amount of historical inaccuracies and changes for the movie. She didn’t play for Rockford, instead she played for Fort Wayne.

Rockford didn’t play in the championship that year, and she didn’t catch, she played center field. She tied for the league lead in homers, finished third in stolen bases and won the batting title with a .299 average. Before you laugh that nobody in the league hit .300, she hit a full 100 points above the league average.

I was watching the movie and was curious to how the card would look and went to Steve’s APBA Card Computer site.

  1. I wish you would have posted her Stats, like you usually do.

  2. Hello Dan,

There does not seem to be a lot of stats available. I couldn’t get anything on Baseball Reference. I got this much from the AAGBPL website. While the numbers will seem weak for a “dominant” player, the whole league only hit .198. I am guessing most games ended with a 1-0 or 2-1 score with neither team having more than 3-4 hits.
