Dave Tomlin was a journeyman reliever in the National League in the 70s and 80s who exhibited decent control with a respectable 3.82 ERA for his career. In 1979, he even had a pretty good APBA hitting card.
That year when he played for the Cincinnati Reds, he only came to the plate twice. He singled once and struck out the other time. He did manage to score a run in his time on base.
Split | G | PA | AB | R | H | 2B | 3B | HR | RBI | SB | BB | SO | |||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1979 Totals | 53 | 2 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 | .500 | .500 | .500 |
With a nifty average of .500, APBA gave him a plethora of 7s. A total of nine in all. To replicate his strikeouts, he received sixteen 13s. While 79 Tomlin did get a few of the automatic numbers like 35, 23, 12, and 21, you won’t find any conventional fly out or ground out numbers on his card, not even a 29.
While 1979 was most certainly an anomaly for Tomlin, he wasn’t a stranger to the hit. In the five-year period of 1975-1979, he batted a pretty decent .185 in 27 at-bats for his team.
