Folks, there’s nothing like a dependable closer and Eric Gagne comes as close to that especially in the year 2003.
As the Dodger closer, Gagne led the NL with 55 saves with a 1.20 ERA. He finished 67 of the team’s games for the season. The kicker: he struck out 137 batters in only 82 1/3 innings.
Eric Gagne was awarded the Cy Young award for his 2003 performance as well as being nominated to the NL All-Star team.

Gagne was awarded the rare A&B grade with every possible strikeout letter, KXY. In addition, he was awarded a Z control rating.
Since Gagne’s fielding was rated as a Pitcher-2 and he is a J-0, the only conceivable way his card could have been improved is to have a ZZ rating instead of a normal Z rating.
Even his hitting card isn’t too bad either. Gagne’s 2003 card has a 66-4 and an 11-5. Since he didn’t bat in 2003 (and only struck out once in 2002), we must assume this hitting card is based on his 2001 hitting in which he went 6 for 44 with two doubles, a triple and a homer.
