Monster Card Monday: 2018 Luke Voit

Okay, Luke Voit didn’t play a full season in 2018 but you have to admit that is nice card.

Voit who split his time between the Cardinals and the Yankees, amassed 15 homers in just 143 at-bats.  On top of that, he hit .322 with 30 runs scored and 36 runs batted in.

For his effort, the 27-year old Voit will earn five power numbers including the coveted three 1s.  He gets hit numbers 1-1-1-0-0 plus a 55-7.

Voit’s power definitely lies in his three ones.  If you get into the extra column, you will have to roll a 66, 11 or a 33 to hit one out.  If you’re lucky enough to have runners in the right spot, a 22-5 would do the trick, too.  In addition, Voit has fourteen singles (7s or 8s) in the second column which takes the shine off the “five power numbers” claim.

For his 17 walks (and .398 OBP), Voit earns four 14s, as well.  At 64, he has a 22.  Because he is a firstbaseman, he gets two unusual play numbers, a 61-37 and a 62-41.  If you count that 41, he has eleven on base chances against an A pitcher with the bases empty… well, twelve counting the 53-20.

It’s worth noting, that he has a 52-13 which APBA is now prone to giving out due to the increased number of strikeouts in baseball (I’m presuming).

This card you see above is from the APBA GO set which is the only way to see the new 2018 set.  If you’re interested in trying the game for free, you have a couple days left to play the World Series participating Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers.  Until November 30th, you can play those teams for free.

  1. Hey APBA Go programmers! A digit width = 2 spaces. Always.
Preface single digit first column results with TWO spaces, not one, and they’ll always line up!
(Just a gripe from a former font guy.)

  2. Dwayne hosey.1995…and Dr rot McClure had 18 hits for a pitcher .
