Monster Card Monday: 2019 Aristides Aquino

For the past three Mondays, I’ve featured 2019 cards from the new APBA GO set. So far, we’ve seen Christian Yelich, Cody Bellinger and Mike Trout. I’m going to do one more today and maybe go back to some traditional ones in the new year.

Today’s card is not exactly a full timer but this rookie certainly has a nice card and maybe a good future. Feast your eyes on Aristides Aquino’s card. My buddy Scott Fennessy suggested this card. As it turned out, I had already had been thinking about it. Great minds think alike!

A rightfielder for the Reds, Aquino made headlines when got off to a great start in mid-2019. He hit eleven homers in his first 16 games spanning 55 at-bats. In fact, I did a Monster Monday article of his unofficial card based off of Steve’s Card Computer. Wow, that one was a doozy!

He eventually settled down a bit (but only a bit). Aquino hit .259 with 8 doubles and 19 homers in 205 at-bats with 7 steals.

Aristides is a homer guy. That is obvious. That said, you will have to do it by rolling 66, 11 or 33. Once you get into the second column, he has just one 1 at 66. Aquino has a total of 12 singles in the second column too. My advice? Just roll a 66, 11 or 33.

Aquino barely ekes out a 15-11 for those who like to hit and run with an 11 on first. That will help his card’s batting average too.

Aquino has the unusual two 8-one 9 combination (generally, cards will get the 8-8-8-9-9 combination with a possibility of an extra 8). This combination accommodates his five power numbers and the 15-11 (and relatively low batting average). Also, if you’re hoping Aquino will take a pitch or two, good luck. He only has two 14s.

As mentioned, Aristides Aquino was a rookie in 2019. Depending on particular APBA league’s rules, this card may be available in rookie drafts. I think Aquino has potential but the three 1s will also make this card hard to pass up.

Happy New Year everyone!!
