Monster Card Monday: 2021 Vladimir Guerrero

This is the second 2021 Monster card after last week’s Bryce Harper. 2021 Vlad Guerrero is just as good and some of you may find it even juicier.

Firstbaseman Guerrero missed just one game of the 2021 season for the Toronto Blue Jays. He made the most of it too. He led the AL with 48 homers (tied with Salvador Perez) and 123 runs scored. He topped the league in both OBP (.401) and slugging percentage (.601).

Driving in 111 runs, Vlad came in second in the AL MVP voting to “you know who”. He’s coming soon.

Let’s get this out of the way; With 1-1-5-6, Vlad Jr does not have five power numbers. It’s still that good.

Guerrero has a 44-7 plus four 8s to go along with the two 9s. On a side note, it seems that in the past couple years, APBA has been shying away from the 8-8-8-8-9-9 combination. I haven’t looked for this in the 2021 season yet. Maybe it’s making a resurgence.

Two things that aren’t helping Vlad; his defense and running out ground balls. Guerrero has an aptly assigned 1B-3 (and a 3B-3 for one game played at third). His two 24s are probably correct for his 20 GIDPs since he played so much.

Let’s make it three; Vlad Jr is rated (S)low.

What did turn me on to this card is his 21-41. Guerrero has four 14s and a 62-22.

Unlike Bryce Harper, Vlad Guerrero has two 31s. Using the Hit & Run might be questionable with this card unless you were down by one run in the ninth. Vlad might talk you after the game too.

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.

One Comment:

  1. Vlad should have been MVP
