My buddy John Brandeberry who recently moved out to Montana has started a new 1938 AL/NL replay. He sent me this Gene Corbett card and laments that he’ll have to get in 75 at-bats for him in his replay.
Firstbaseman Corbett not only played in 25 games but started in 20 for the Philadelphia Phillies in 1938. In that time, he batted only .080 going 6 for 75 with a double and two homeruns. He drove in 7 runs and scored 7 runs as well. He drew six walks and struck out eleven times.
Split | G | PA | AB | R | H | 2B | 3B | HR | RBI | SB | BB | SO | |||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1938 Totals | 25 | 82 | 76 | 7 | 6 | 1 | 0 | 2 | 7 | 0 | 6 | 11 | .079 | .146 | .171 |
While Corbett’s second column behind two zeroes are laden with ones, there is precious little after that. Specifically, his hit numbers are 0-0-8-9… and that’s it. He has an atrocious 44-37.
He does have three 14s located at 15, 45, and 55. I’m not sure why the 14 was placed at 15 and not 44 but I’ve noticed that APBA has done this trick before.
Ugly numbers: 44-37, 22-9, 55-14
Corbett has four 13s but you won’t find them at 24 or 26 or even 64. Look at the traditional offensive numbers for them on his card. He has 13s on 13, 35, 51 and 31.
Thanks Brando! Good luck with the replay!
