Terrible Card Tuesday: 1968 Tommy Matchick

Not only was Tommy Matchick a teammate of last week’s Terrible Tuesday card Dick Tracewski but he was his platoon mate as well.  Both by the way, were suggested by Tom Zuppa.  The Tigers had it pretty bad off at short offensively, even considering it was a pitchers’ year.  Tracewski’s card was pretty awful and Matchick’s wasn’t better.

Matchick did manage to bat over .200 just barely at .203 for the year.  He even hit three homeruns.  His overall percentages (.203/.248/.286) pale in any decade.

Tommy Matchick may have hit slightly better than Tracewski in 1968 but his SS-7 is one point lower.  Overall, his numbers are 0-0-7-8-8-8-8-9-9.  That gives him a rare 51-42.

That one 42 though is helpful because Matchick only has one 14 on his whole card.

Incidentally, he was caught stealing in both of his attempts which resulted in his Master Game steal rating of B9.  Yeah, you can try stealing if you want but I wouldn’t recommend it.

Thanks, Tom Zuppa!

  1. …. and this is why I used Mickey Stanley as a SS in all my baseball sim games. In 1968 he had games at the position and was a much better offensive player than others so yeah Oyler and Matchick didn’t get much time on the field when I used the ’68 Tigers.

  2. I seem to recall the Tigers were world champion. Matchick and the rest had to do somethings right.
