Terrible Card Tuesday: 2011 Reid Brignac

When word got out at the Illowa APBA League All-Star weekend about this Terrible Card Tuesday feature, our commissioner, Mike Bunch, got inspired.  He started flipping out cards from his Green Rock Bombers team saying they would make good candidates.  Indeed, he came up with four or five possibilities.  It made me wonder how in the world he is in the hunt for the playoffs.  Good managing?  I don’t think so.  (just kidding, Mike!)

So, this week’s TCT is 2011 Reid Brignac, shortstop for the Tampa Bay Rays (and the Green Rock Bombers!).

Brignac’s actual stats from last year:

Split G PA AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB BB SO BA OBP SLG
2011 Totals 92 264 249 18 48 4 0 1 15 3 10 63 .193 .227 .221

Hitting a nifty .193 in 249 at-bats, Brignac does have the advantage of playing a demanding position and doing somewhat well (SS-8).  But with numbers like 0-7-8-8-8-9-9 plus a 10, his power is limited and his on-base chances are even more restrictive with just one 14.

‘Highlights’ of Brignac’s card include a 13-13, a 31-23 and a 51-39.

Mike is lucky in one respect, though.  It looks like Brignac will not be returning to the Bombers in 2013.  He only batted 22 times in 2012.

I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.
