Terrible Card Tuesday: 2014 Andy Wilkins

I thought I would post from the worst of the Illowa APBA League rookie draft last month.  I was thinking about putting up Mike Olt’s card with his 15-14.  But he’s got a bit of power and besides, he’s a Cub.  Then up comes firstbaseman Andy Wilkins from 2014.  Yow!  And even better, he played for the White Sox.

Andy Wilkins (no relation to Rick as far as I can tell) went 6 for 43 with two doubles for the South Siders.  He walked twice and struck out 22 of the 45 times he came to the plate.

Picking a slow, rookie 1B-2 is never a positive move (keep in mind, this is coming from someone who picked Darin Ruf last year). Also, a 44-9 is as bad as it gets for anyone who plays for a good sample size unless they have a decent amount of 11s on their card.  However, I am a little surprised that APBA didn’t give Wilkins two 6s or maybe two 0s.

Andy has a total of fourteen 13s on his card in places including inopportune places like 31, 51, and 35.

Ugly numbers:  44-9, 15-37, 25-41

As bad as this card is, Andy Wilkins does have some upside.  He hit over 30 homers with 85 rbis last year for AAA Charlotte.  Now it seems that the Blue Jays have picked him up on waivers.

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.
