Weird Card Wednesday: 1925 Hank Severeid and Bennie Tate

Because I totally forgot to do Monster Monday, you’re getting a double dose of Weird Card Wednesday this week.  Tom Zuppa thought it strange that a card would have three 6s for their extra base numbers.  But what if that player’s platoon mate also had the same power numbers?

That is the case with the 1925 Washington Senators catching duo of Hank Severeid and Bennie Tate.  Both have a 66-6, 11-6 and a 33-6.  Wow, opponents need to be careful about keeping a runner off third base.

As you can see, both catchers are potential candidates for Monster Monday especially Tate who has a 51-7 and a 61-8.  Severeid, who split time between the Browns and Senators, has a 15-7 and a 26-14.

In actuality, both Tate and Severeid were backups to Muddy Ruel who played most of the Sens’ games at catcher in 1925.  Ruel wasn’t too shabby at the plate either batting .310 for the AL pennant winning Washington team.

thanks, Zup!

2 Comments:

  1. Let them bat with a man on base please. A guy on 3rd is a nice place to put them.

  2. Ruel is batting .310 (22-for-71) in my Crazy 48’s, but poor Severeid has not done well for some reason (5-for-29), batting .172 — with Tate 1-for-5.
