Weird Card Wednesday: 1938 Johnny Dickshot

111

Another suggestion from Brando’s 1938 set.  First of all, you can’t beat a name like “Johnny Dickshot”.

The New York Giant outfielder has a pretty odd card too.  With no power numbers but two 11s and a 10 plus six 14s, his card is all over the place.

Dickshot went 8 for 35 in 1938 with three stolen bases and eight walks.  He did manage to put in a full season in his last year in 1945.  Then I suppose, all the good players came back from the war.

Thanks, Brando!

3 Comments:

  1. had to check retrosheet to believe this was a real player. oh my.

    looks like a pinch runner.

  2. Dickshot had an interesting last season of 1945. Was in the race for the batting title, on the last day he not only lost the title, but he and teammate Tony Cunnicello, who was also fighting for the batting title –
were released as of the end of the season with the war veterans coming back. What a way to finish a career!
