Weird Card Wednesday (Cubs World Series style): 1976 Joe Maddon

This week, in honor of my Chicago Cubs finally winning the World Series, you are going to see articles featuring the 2016 Chicago Cubs using Steve’s APBA Card Computer*.

For Weird Card Wednesday this week, I was in a bit of a fix.  Since the cards I was using were not official, there were no “Weird” (or alternatively, all of the cards could be considered weird).  So I went into a different direction.  I entered the stats of Cubs’ manager Joe Maddon’s very first year in the minors into Steve’s APBA Card Computer and the resulting card was displayed.

Maddon came up and played A ball for the Midwest League’s Quad City Angels in 1976.  Like so many future coaches and managers, Maddon was a catcher for the California Angels affiliate.

I guess Maddon didn’t do too badly.  In 50 games, He batted .294 in 163 at-bats giving him a respectable 44-7.   He didn’t have much power though.  His 9 doubles would probably warrant a 6-6 power combination.

Joe Maddon played four seasons in the minors though he never made it past single-A.  By 1979, he turned in his tools of ignorance and focused on the brainier part of the game.  By 1996, he was managing his very first team, the California Angels.

* The cards generated from Steve’s APBA Card Computer are purely predictive and not considered official APBA cards.

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.
