Weird Card Wednesday: 1959 Cal McLish

I said I probably wasn’t going to do another Weird Wednesday Card but Scott Veatch tempted me to do another with Cal McLish’s card.  Coincidentally, Don Smith mentioned McLish in the comments section of last week’s Alan Gallagher article so I couldn’t just let it go.

Scott writes:

I loved the post about Alan Gallagher and all his "middle" names. It made me think of this guy — Cal McLish, who pitched for the Indians, White Sox and Phillies in the 1950s and 1960s. Do you remember seeing his card?

Calvin Coolidge Julius Caesar Tuskahoma McLish

I’ve attached two of his cards here. 1962 original release with the Phils and the 1959 reprint with Cleveland. The reprint card listed all his names; his cards with the Phillies in 62 (and also 63) apparently felt a presidential reference was sufficient.

For reference, here is Cal McLish’s original 1962 card:

thanks, Scott and Don!

I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.

  1. What about:
Alan Mitchell Edward George Patrick Henry Gallagher

He played 3B for the SF Giants in the early 70’s. I think his 1970 or 1971 card had all his names on it.
