Who have good cards in the 2012 baseball set?

John Mates on The APBA Blog Facebook page has a simple question:

Need some help folks……..In YOUR opinion…….list the top ten APBA baseball cards put out for this year……excluding XB’s and XC’s

Sounds like someone is getting ready for a draft  ;-)

I was going to answer this myself but then I thought, why not throw this out to everybody??

Mind you, John is just looking for good cards from the 2012 baseball set.  One year wonders can indeed apply here.

Leave your answers in the comment section or on the Facebook page.  I’m sure John would be most grateful.

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.

  1. this is a good place to start:
    http://www.apbablog.com/stats/2012-disk-by-the-numbers-offense

it lists all players with five EBH #s and double 1s and also ranks players with most hit numbers.

  2. Joey Votto

  3. Not NEARLY enough information.
    Keeper league?
Is the league usage-constrained? If so, the best batters are Miguel Cabrera, Braun, McCutchen, Cano, Fielder, Trout, Beltre, Posey, Butler, Encarnacion. If not, then it’s Ortiz, Mig. Cabrera, Votto, Braun Stanton, Trout, McCutchen, Posey, Pete Kozma(!), Brandon Moss.
Is the league deep? (Shallow league pitching will devalue singles.) Pitching v Batting depends on the depth of the league as well.

  4. A few years ago I was reading through an APBA journal and came across a league that used a salary cap system. Every year they revalued the cards using a formula that gave positive results for things like xbh, walks, 10/11s, and good defense. It also detracts points for things like bad defense, strike outs, and double plays. Anyway… based on this formula the top 10 hitter cards in this year’s set from this formula are in order:

    1. Miguel Cabrera
    2. Melky Cabrera
    3. Ryan Braun
    4. Giancarlo Stanton
    5. Adrian Beltre
    6. Joey Votto
    7. Mike Trout
    8. Robinson Cano
    9. Alex Rios
    10. Andrew McCutchen
