APBA Newsletter Highlights: 2014 to be Year of Football

apba-footballThe latest APBA Newsletter was just released.  Some good information and some pretty upbeat stuff to be quite honest.

Here are some highlights from the newsletter:

Baseball

“APBA now offers all of the 20th and 21st century major league baseball seasons. The 1902 season is now available as either a basic or master game set. The roster for this set is available at our website.

We will start taking pre-orders for the 2013 baseball season disk at the conclusion of the World Series. The disk is $28 plus S/H.”

The newsletter states quite emphatically that with the release of the 1902 season, “ALL One Hundred and Twelve (112) Baseball Season Sets are In Stock!”.  Quite an accomplishment.  Thanks APBA!  Here is a link to the list of seasons available.  From there, you can download the roster list for each season.

It is noted that APBA will re-card seasons that didn’t include every player.  Those seasons are 1979, 1957 and 1972 and they will be published in 2014.

Football

We have processed about 40% of the 2012 pro football card set orders. After these orders are completed we will begin to ship the college football sets and offer more sets for sale.

I’ve had a lot of people ask me about the college football sets.  They seem to be in demand.  For those waiting, they will be shipped soon, apparently.

APBA then makes a bold statement (emphasis mine):

With the completion of the 1902 baseball season, 2014 will be the year of football. At some point I want to have every pro season from 1955 forward in stock. We will begin that process in 2014 by issuing pre-1982 seasons. The first three seasons planned are 1965, 1970 and 1975. In addition, we will continue to convert seasons from sheets to cards.

Year of Football?  I don’t know if they were emboldened by the APBA Football Club’s first sport-specific convention on a national scale in a while but it certainly didn’t hurt the cause.  I think this is a good thing for APBA.  They are also making the 1958, 1962, 1972, 1984, 1992, 2010 and 2011 seasons available.  Rumor has it that the plans are to bring APBA Football to the same level as APBA Baseball… that is, eventually making all modern seasons available and playable for the current game. Good news for APBA gridiron fans.

There’s also news for Hockey, Golf and Soccer.  There are new and current seasons available for Hockey and Soccer.  As for the APBA Golf game,  it’s going through a rebuild.

Hockey

The 2012-13 Season is now available. Replay the Blackhawks magical season. We are now offering the 1954-55 and 1934-35 seasons. Continue to visit the website for new hockey sets. We will issue two more historical seasons before the end of the year.

Golf

We have begun to rebuild the golf game. The game manual will be the same size as the new baseball and football games. After the rebuild, the golf game will include either the current Ryder Cup or President Cup teams. 2014 will include the 2013 President’s teams. We are going to offer current players or teams with all of our sport games. The revised golf game will include instructions for the tour cards and instructions for a new version of the golf game. More details will follow on this product. Here is a list of available golf card sets.

Soccer

The 2012-13 La Liga soccer card set is now available. You have your choice of 20 teams to coach. The set has 548 players. Do you coach Messi or against him? Now you can find out. Buy this set for $44 + S/H.

Thomas Nelshoppen

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.

3 Comments:

  1. We do love having a “football guy” at the helm! We’d love to see a full 1956 set calculated for the first time, and we’ll be curious how much tweaking will be involved with some players’ points in the ’65, ’70 and ’75 sets, etc. Having a refined ’65 AFL set would be most useful, as well.

  2. I was surprised to hear APBA was doing college football. I’m not a big NFL fan and never had interest in the APBA NFL game. However, the thought of playing college football sounds great. I usually do solo APBA baseball replays. Does anyone know if the football game would be playable in the same way? I think I read somewhere on a message board that it is built more for 2 players. Thanks!

  3. Hello, i played foolbatl from 7th through the 12th grade. It is a physical and dangerous sport. Having said that, there is not a time in my life which i wish i could return to more. The game, the passion, the feeling u get running onto a field on a friday night under the lights The people i shed blood, sweat, and tears with were more than just teamates, they were brothers. When i told my father that i wanted to play he said no at first He coached foolbatl for many years and didn think i was cut out for such a sport. But after a few seasons he was deffinetly pleased at my progress. He was at every game i ever played. Football became a huge part of our relationship and we became really good friends as a result. So yes foolbatl is tough and the possibility of injury is there, to deny a kid these life experiences would be a much greater tradgedy than a broken bone!!!
