Online Play?

I got an email from Tyson regarding online APBA play:

He says in part:

Now I have a new job in another town and miss that time we spent together as well as miss playing APBA baseball all together.  It is not feasible for me to join any leagues with my schedule, but I still wish there was a way to play online.  It seems to me that the computer version of this game would lend itself over to playing online very easily.  I literally have had dreams about logging onto an APBA baseball site similar to that of an online poker site and finding a game.  I have looked all over the net, but have had no luck at all.  Am I not looking in the right places or is there really no where play online?

I honestly haven’t followed the computer aspect of APBA recently.  I know a while back there was talk of an online version of the game but it sort of fell apart.
Did the project ever get picked up again?

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.

  1. Our league is completely online and we use the DOS version of baseball for windows. Logmein.com allows us to play each other “face-to-face” for 162 games. I’m sure there are other leagues out there with similar formats …

  2. i haven’t thought of that avenue.

Teamviewer (teamviewer.com, I think) might work in the same vein.

  3. I absolutely agree. Why is there not online APBA. In college or earlier people had the opportunity to meet and play. With everyone’s schedule this is no longer feasable. Meeting online for a game from home is very convenient and I have a group of friends who would love to have an online league.

  4. I have been playing the computer version for 20 years. We’ve used 3 differnt ways to play face-to-face on the computer, with LogMeIn the most resent. The problem with these forms is that not everybody in our league is computer savey enough to set the programs up. :( I’ve been hoping for an online version for a long time. We started out with managers in Kentucky and South Carolina and lots of actual face-to-face but as the league spread out we now have managers in Georgia & Pa. I feel very strongly about an online version. There’s notice like a trash talking while playing, even if it’s a text file.

My 2 cents….. Is there a online version on the horizon is my question. I truely hope so…

    Now on to the draft….

  5. Back again. It’s been awhile since I’ve searched for online APBA play and I came across this blog. Looks like Stat-o-matic has the option for their game. I haven’t looked up any reviews on yet though. Anybody played it?

    Still searching,

    Tyson
