Is deadball dead? Nope. Scott Fennessy and his 1905 Giants take Chicagoland Tournament

I’m not sure where to start.  With so much happening at yesterday’s amazing Chicagoland Tournament, there is so much to talk about.  I’ll probably stretch it out over a couple articles.  For now, we’ll start with the “official” press release.

Congratulations to Scott Fennessy who managed his 1905 New Giants to the championship of the 2nd Chicagoland APBA World Series Tournament on Saturday, November 16th.  Scott got masterful pitching from Christy Mathewson who pitched a no-hitter AND a two-hitter in the finals and went 3-0 for the tournament.  Mathewson is the presumed Tournament MVP.

Honorable mention goes to Clark Eichman who took the 1971 Pirates to the championship game.   Greg Nelson (1998 Braves), Doug Schuyler (1998 Yankees), and Curt Bartell also won their divisions and went on the finals.

Thomas Nelshoppen

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.

3 Comments:

  1. I would love to see a piece about why in APBA the deadball teams are so hard to beat. What are the key numbers that are helping them win tournaments?

  2. Jim S and Doug S, nice job getting these Chicago area tournaments going! We are in the early stages of organizing a regular Twin Cities tournament … your format/rules are a good one to follow! Also, publishing the results like you have, really help in getting other APBA interest going.

  3. CONGRATULATIONS SCOTT!.. CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE!

You fellas keep the hobby going!

And, thanks Tom!..Your blog is just super!

    All the best!

    Jim
