Jim Saska sparks memory of 1998 APBA personalized name tag

Last weekend at the Chicago Tournament, I noticed that Jim Saska (right) was wearing his IMG_2447personalized APBA card name tag that the Company had given him at one of the national conventions.  At the time, I remembered being given one myself.

Tonight, I looked in my drawer and there it was from 1998.  APBA must not have known me well at the time since they rated me as a Fast Outfielder.  :)

Zooming in on the photo I took tonight, I can tell they used an old card of Baltimore Oriole speedster Al Bumbry.

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.

One Comment:

  1. I once (1979?) wrapped my brother’s Christmas present in a large copy of Al Bumbry’s APBA card. Weeks before, he had acquired Bumbry from me in our keeper league. Seemed like the thing to do. DonS.
