I’ve finished totaling Twin City Thunderchicken team stats for the first 24 games of the Illowa APBA League 2012 season. Now, my outfielder Tyler Colvin is a team player and helps the other guys in the clubhouse and occasionally makes a good play in centerfield. At the plate though, he’s a tad lacking.
Player | G | AB | R | H | 2B | 3B | HR | RBI | BB | SO | SB | HBP | AVG | SLG | OBP |
Colvin, T. | 13 | 34 | 2 | 6 | 2 | 0 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 11 | 0 | 0 | .176 | .324 | .200 |
Now Colvin did start out pretty hot, giving me a little hope. In his first game of the season, he banged out a double and for the first six-game series, he was 4 for 9 with an additional homerun. Reality eventually set in for the remaining 18 games. Colvin is actually having trouble keeping pace with the Thunderchicken pitchers with the bat.
Player | G | AB | R | H | 2B | 3B | HR | RBI | BB | SO | SB | HBP | AVG | SLG | OBP |
Pitchers | 24 | 55 | 7 | 12 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 4 | 3 | 16 | 0 | 0 | .218 | .273 | .259 |
Granted the pitchers have batted a few more times but they out-perform Colvin in pretty much every category even batting average and OBP.
Now we at Thunderchicken management still consider Mr. Colvin a valuable asset to the Twin City Thunderchicken organization. We have no regrets at all in not picking an outfielder in the 2012 rookie draft. We’re sure Tyler will come around and get out of his slump. By next month, he’ll have forgotten this slow start.
Really.
