Things found while cleaning

Like I said earlier, I was cleaning my office this weekend.  Every time I do that, I find things.

I ran across my Twin City Thunderchickens team mascot, Chuck the Chicken.  I think I wrote about him in an article I did about league mascots a while back.  Poor Chuck was stuffed in a bag after an APBA get together it seems, and forgotten for a while.  He’s back on my shelf now.

I also found my baseball signed by Bob Boone that I bought at a fundraiser for a friend’s son.

How many of you remember this one?  I ran across it in a folder buried on my desk.

I honestly don’t know the whole history behind the APBA News.  It was edited by Eric Naftaly, it seems.

Interesting article about Japanese Baseball by Jim Allen and some pieces by Jim Sce, Don Adams and Alan Berger.

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.

  1. Those old APBA publications (APBA Journal, APBA News, APBA Innings) had “good guys” and “not so good guys.”

    Kinda like life, I suppose.

Eric Naftaly was one of the “good guys.”

  2. The APBA News was published by Francis Rose or maybe more correctly by Sports Game Publishing with Francis Rose as the editor.

    • Thanks Doug! I wondered about that.

I also just ran across two copies of APBA Innings from 1973 in my office! I doubt I got them back then since I was but a lad of 9. I probably picked them up at a convention.
