Call for questions for Herson interview

APBA CEO John Herson has just agreed to do another interview with The APBA Blog.  With the transition of APBA to its new home in Georgia and other major changes, I thought this would be a good time to ask some questions.  I appreciate Mr Herson taking his time to do this.

So that said, I’m putting out a call for questions.  What do you want to see answered by Mr Herson?  I’m sure there are plenty of questions out there in light of recent events.

If you have a good idea for a question, please email me or just leave it in the comments section.

Please keep this civil.  Some of you have strong feelings about this and I’m willing to entertain a certain amount of snarkiness but let’s keep our heads about us.

Edit 9/19/2011– thanks all for the great questions!  I’ll be putting them together and sending them to Mr Herson soon.

Thomas Nelshoppen

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.

  1. The question on the top of my mind is:
APBA has done very well the last few years in meeting the expectations of their baseball customers, but we remember years in the not too distant past when cards were way too late for our league. When do you anticipate shipping the 2011 baseball season disks and cards?

And the other question is (and it’s hard to be civil about it):
What is the deal with the computer game? It really is long past time to fish or get off the pot on this one. Managing a software product is hard, and it’s probably not in APBA’s budget to do it well, so why don’t you license the game engine out to whomever is capable and motivated enough to implement the game. You could take a per-copy fee from their sales and do no work – why not go that route?

  2. So, Mark, if you play APBA on the iPad (or any other device), what would you want it to be like? Would you want it to be more like BBW? Or more like playing a Master Game w/ APBA cards and dice and board results? What BBW features would be important to you? Would you like to communicate to other devices to allow “face-to-face” play?

  3. Will there be a physical store to visit and purchase games and/or cards?

  4. My concern would also be the baseball cards. Will the same personnel produce the cards/disk as used in the recent past.? When can we expect to see the carded player list, the delivery of the disk and finally the delivery of baseball cards.

  5. great questions! I just sent him a number of them to answer.

  6. I have this question: Will APBA consider revamping the newest version of APBA Basketball and produce card sets in the future? I know it is not an immediate project, but I think it can be done now that we have seen success with APBA Hockey, Soccer and Golf.

    Thanks,

    Chris
