Bridesburg APBA League 2014 season underway!

Brian Cavanaugh runs the Bridesburg APBA League at the Don Moyer Boys and Girls Club in the Philly area.  They’ve just drafted and he’s sent me an update.  I gotta say this league has the coolest names around.

The Bridesburg APBA league kicked off it’s summer festivities with the league draft which took place June 26-27. Fifteen players participated in the draft this summer as the player/coaches carefully built their teams around pitching and hitting. A new wrinkle to our draft this summer was the advent of a traditional draft system with teams picking 1-15 each round (in the past, each team received 2 picks per round, 1-15 than 15-1). We felt the more traditional method placed more emphasis on the top picks. Returning teams were allowed to retain up to 5 players at the sacrifice of draft picks.

Mike Trout was the easy top choice, but after that, pitching was the name of the game.

1. Jump Ropers: Mike Trout OF

2. Shredders: Tanner Roark P

3. Tiggers ( formerly the Night Hawks): Anibal Sanchez P

4. Lightning: Max Sherzer P (keeper pick)

5. Nasty Nate’s: Clay Buchholz P

6. Convicts: Clayton Kershaw P (keeper pick)

7. Little Louie’s: Zach Greinke P

8. Rockets: Jesse Crain P

9. Winks: Brandon Phillips 2B

10. M & M’s: Bartolo Colon P

11. Senators: Miguel Cabrera (keeper pick)

12. Rainbow NInja’s: Jose Fernandez P

13. Rat Pack: Yu Darvish P

14. Red Wings: Robinson Cano 2B (keeper pick)

15. Red Tigers: Cliff Lee P

League play begins Monday, June 30, 2014, LET"S ROLL!!!

I ain’t goin’ to mess around with a team named the “Jump Ropers” especially if they’re smart enough to draft Mike Trout.  Good luck everyone!!

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.
