Wil Myers picked #1 in marathon 2013 MWBL draft

Stray Corrado informed me that the Mid-West Baseball League has completed its 2013 Annual Draft.

And what a draft it was!  There was 336 picks for the 28 teams and the draft lasted for more than six and half hours.  Only the first class MWBL could pull this off.

For the record, Motor City picked Wil Myers with the #1 pick in the draft.  Here were the first picks in the MWBL draft:

PICK # ROUND 1 MWBL TEAM TRADED TO MWBL TEAM PLAYER MLB POS
1 Motor City Myers, Wil tb OF
2 Dallas Taillon, James pit P
3 Bethesda Rendon, Anthony was 3B
4 Selkirk New York Rodney, Fernando tb P
5 Valdosta Sano, Miguel min 3B

you can find the full draft list here.

Good luck in 2013, Mid-West managers!

  1. Tom,
Im honored to have become a part of MWBL mid season last year. This was my first “rookie” draft with stray and his crew and it was amazing……..and the draft software used is crazy ……this is a passionate and well organized group.

  2. Just my opinion: Why are you allowed to draft guys with NO cards? When these guys get cards, the guys who should get them (the guys who finish last and pick first) might not get them. Sorry, I don’t get it.

  3. I’m not in the league so maybe Stray or Dom could speak to it better. As I understand it, it is very much a futures draft so they’re picking players based on their potential to make it big.

Our league used to allow managers to use a first round pick to draft an uncarded player. The player stays on the roster but doesn’t play until he gets a card.

My guess is that MWBL has a very expanded roster to accommodate this. Again, Stray or Dom can speak to details better.

And from what I hear, you really need to know your baseball to compete in this league. :)
