It’s trading time in APBA leagues

lmadIt’s trading season…at least for me.  We’re closing in on the end of our 2014 season in the Illowa APBA League.  Now that we have a good idea what the 2014 APBA baseball cards look like, managers are beginning to test the hot stove league for the coming year.

The Boys of Summer APBA Online League allows in season trading up until the trading deadline so there are deals flying about in that league too

In the IAL, I’m right in the middle of intense negotiations with one particular manager.  I’m probably not at liberty to say what players are involved or which manager I’m talking with (you know who you are) but I will say that the initial offer involved ten players.  Yikes!  My players are getting nervous.

Given that, it’s no better time than the present than to bring out an article I wrote four years ago but is still just as relevant today.  Check out 10 tips for trading in an APBA league.  I’ve linked to this each year probably because it has some nuggets of decent advice in it.

My situation in the IAL is somewhat dire.  It’s no secret.  My IAL trading partner has seen my roster and knows it too (he’s done his homework!).  I need to cover catcher, third base, some outfield, and some pitching.  Plus, I have two capable first basemen who unfortunately are both 35 years old.  So yeah, some off-season maneuvers are quite necessary.

Time to read that article again.

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.
