From the archives: a 1979 IAL article

I ran across this charming piece of Illowa APBA League history and couldn’t pass up the chance to share it.  It’s an article written in 1979 for our monthly newsletter.  Tedd Mallasch wrote it after winning the league championship that year.

Charming because it’s a handwritten note, something we rarely see in these digital days.  Also charming because it’s not full of analysis and stats but rather of humor and emotion.

It’s essentially a thank you note to his Chicago Champions team for winning it all.  And he certainly found something nice to say about everybody (“to Doug Rau for winning 2 of 3 decisions”).

It brought a smile to my face.

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.
