Grand Rapids APBA League: Ernie says goodbye

Banks-Santo retired numbersThis timely piece was written by commissioner G.F. Korreck of the Grand Rapids APBA League (GRAPBA) and was forwarded on by Dick Butler.  -Tom

In last week’s Grand Rapids APBA League (GRAPBA) World Series Ernie Banks, playing for the eventual champion Bats, hit a three-run homer in his first at bat. He also homered in game five and in the Series clincher in game six.

The last homer came in his final at bat. So Ernie got to the post-season after all, and played on a winner. Even the losing skipper managed a smile. Willingly.

Thanks for sharing, guys.

I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.
