IAL Awards: Votto, Wainwright win big in 2011

The Illowa APBA League ballot results are in for the 2011 awards and there weren’t too many surprises.  Nor should there have been.

Moline Upperdeckers firstbaseman Joey Votto took the MVP award unanimously.  Votto led the IAL in homeruns (52), runs scored (137), slugging (.691) and OBP (.429) and came in second with 115 rbis.

Molly Putts Marauders pitcher Adam Wainwright laid claim to the Cy Young award in 2011.  His stats were just as dominating.  He led the league in wins with a 19-8 record.  Wainwright also paced the IAL in ERA with a 1.96 ERA (that was .86 lower than the next lower ERA).  He also came in second in shutouts with four.  Wainwright vote almost was unanimous with one dissension (one joker voted for Joakim Soria).

In an interesting development, there is a three-way tie for Manager of the Year.  Congrats to Don Smith, Marcus Bunch and Chuck Lucas who all ended up playoff bound in 2011!

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.
