My second round pick of Ellsbury was met with silence.  And I really didn’t know whether it was right move or not.  Of course the highest compliment anyone can hear during a draft is “Dammit!”.  Later, one manager confided in me that my pick of Jacoby forced him to go to Plan B so that made me feel better.

Matt Harrison?  Who’s he?  I still don’t know.  It’s slim pickins by the sixth round and I should know better than to take advice from Teddy.  It doesn’t help that he pitches in Texas.

  1. Ellsbury is a good pick. The one thing I notice about our draft as opposed to most others is that since we only have 26 man rosters and can only drop players who fall below the eligibility limits , we are forced to draft for need a lot more than most other leagues (this is intentional, as it keeps the power level of the league lower than some others). This is why I was lucky enough to be able to wait for Chris Davis to fall to me in the 4th round. When I took him I was thinking of him as being more useful for the future than this year, but I’m starting to realize that he’ll help me out a lot this year, backing up Beltre and Berkman. The at-bats Robb Quinlan would have gotten will go to Davis, although the difference is that many of the innings Tavarez will have to pitch could have gone to an A reliever.

I’ve noticed this too, Rob. Some would say we’re masochistic, :)

But I kind of like it. it forces us to make do with what we have.

  3. I also like it for continuity – we dont have players playing a few years, then dropping out of the league for multiple years, and then popping back up. BTW, one other note about draft eligibility: non-rookies who didn’t meet the draft eligibility requirements for previous years are elligible – that’s who Edinson Volquez made it into this year’s draft.
