Passiatore wins sixth straight OAPBA title in ‘Black Friday Series’

Rod Caborn emails us about the futile attempt of the rest of the OAPBA League in keeping Joe Passiatore down.  Passiatore’s Platoon won their sixth straight OAPBA title.

Rod reports:

Joe Passiatore’s Platoon (44-36) battled their way to their sixth consecutive OAPBA title in 2013, rebounding from a horrible start to the season to grind through the playoffs and defeat Walt Taylor’s Whatevers (48-32) in a hard-fought seven-game 2013 OAPBA World Series that Whatever fans will forever recall as the Black Friday World Series.

The Platoon’s championship was an improbable end to a 2013 season that looked like someone would finally snap the defending champion’s remarkable string of titles.  The Platoon had to get past Marc Bostrom’s Road Warriors (37-43) in the Play-In Series, upset Dave Larson’s Taz Devils (50-30) in the semi-finals and then beat Walt Taylor’s Whatevers (48-32) in the Series.

The 2013 Series victory was Passiatore’s 11th OAPBA championship, easily the most in the league’s 26-year history.  His Platoon II franchise won in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 2012 and 2013.  With his original Platoon franchise, Passiatore won five league crowns.

I gotta wonder What’s it going to take to bring Joe P down?  I like dynasties and all but six years is a long time, guys.

Seriously, congratulations to Mr. Passiatore!

Below are OAPBA’s standings and selected standings.  Congrats to everyone in OAPBA for another successful season!

I am an IT consultant by day and an APBA media mogul by night. My passions are baseball (specifically Illini baseball), photography and of course, APBA. I have been fortunate to be part of the basic game Illowa APBA League since 1980 as well as a frequent participant of the Chicagoland APBA Tournament. I am slogging through a 1966 NL replay and hope to finish before I die.
