Thunderchickens make first off-season trade

One of the best things about being in a face-to-face APBA league is the off-season hot stove league. While technically, we have one more month left in our season, our Illowa APBA League is already planning our annual draft weekend.

There have been a few trades so far in the IAL but not for my Twin City Thunderchickens…

…until now.

Like the majors, some trades are blockbusters and others simply fill holes. The deal I made with my buddy Brando and his Missoula Ospreys is certainly the latter. It was a one for one deal. We traded 2B Cavan Biggio for starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks.

On the face of it, it doesn’t look like a good deal. A 2B-8 with five 14s for a D pitcher? What am I thinking?

First, this is a future deal for me. Hendricks is slotted to start in 2023 and if he can get back to form he was at a few years ago, then I have a solid starter for a while. Also, my three of my Thunderchickens pitchers retired so I am desperate (really desperate) for innings even D innings.

My team already had four second baseman so I was overloaded at that position. Biggio got the call to go to the Ospreys.

Honestly, this deal could go either way for both teams. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to reap sweet rewards until 2024… unless rumors of Hendricks’ delay due to injury are true.

Desperate times, desperate measures.
